Yes you can certainly have backyard chickens in urban environments, usually. The benefits of backyard chickens are many.
1. Chickens are the healthiest pest repellent
That’s all they do all day, is scour the ground and grasses for bugs. This totally beats chemical alternatives.
2. Chickens regenerate the soil
Did you know that soil needs poop in order to regenerate? Chickens running over your soil will add the necessary micronutrients to enrich any type of soil and re-supply depleted nutrients and minerals.
3. Chickens produce the freshest eggs you’ll find
Eggs are one of my staples, and should be yours too! They contain a ton of nutrients and are quite versatile. Don’t believe the cholesterol myth. With backyard chickens, you’ll have fresh eggs daily and cut down on grocery bills.
4. Chickens are great garbage disposals
Better yet, chickens are great composters. They’ll eat just about any food scraps, and then return them as nutrients to the soil.
5. Chickens make great pets
They’re fun to watch, which is the best thing about pets, right? Not to mention all of the above: they give you food and compost your leftovers, regenerating the earth you live on over and over.
