Boniato (or Cuban sweet potato) is a variety of sweet potato (under the same name – Ipomoea batatas). It grows similar to sweet potatoes as well. Growing boniato in Florida makes a great supplement to the garden or food forest.
Growing boniato in Florida
Boniato is common in South Florida and Central America. It can tolerate intense heat and poor soil. Similar to sweet potato, boniato can be planted and harvested year-round, although cold weather will slow down growth.
What you’ll need
Grown similar to regular sweet potatoes, boniato can be propagated from draws, slips, transplants, and vine cuttings.
I haven’t found these too easily but I will add more detail once I’m successfully growing boniato.
